Automated Meter Reading
Our new automatic meter reading (AMR) system called the “Turtle” is an advanced metering system. We started installing these meters in 2004; installation was completed in 2005.
You will notice a red light on your meter; this is the meter transmitter. Due to this constant data reporting from each meter, it is very important that these meters are not removed from the meter sockets without our knowledge. Any electrical work that requires the meter to be removed will have to be scheduled with Scenic Rivers Energy Cooperative.
Listed below are the benefits of having an the automatic meter reading (AMR) system:
- Eliminates the need for utility personnel to visit your home/property monthly to read your meter.
- Reduces the potential for human error in reading, recording, and entering your meter reading into the utility’s billing system. Thus, the potential for inaccurate meter reads is greatly reduced which ensures that your bill will be accurate each month.
- Eliminates the need for estimating your bill during months that your property was inaccessible or missed by the meter reader.
- Provides the utility with indication of a power outage at your home without you calling to inform the utility. In addition, once power is restored, the utility receives verification without the need to call you…in the middle of the night.
- Provides the utility with indication of the number of momentary interruptions in power that your home is experiencing each day so that the utility can ensure your level of service is acceptable.
- Enables the utility to monitor the maximum demand at your home to ensure that the transformer feeding your home is adequately sized to accommodate your energy usage. This is very important for instance, when it is 100 degrees outside and your air conditioner is running constantly to keep up or farms using extra equipment to keep animals cool.
- Enables the utility to provide you with indication of daily usage at your home to help you understand how variables such as temperature and the number of people in your home affect your cost of energy each day.
